Prima Donna, first lady of the stage ~

Today Margaret and I met up at the Eaton Centre. We spent quite some time in Sephora and the new LUSH store trying out colors and smelling pretty things. Then we headed over to the Paramount to watch The Phantom of the Opera. I already bought the soundtrack in November so I knew what to expect in terms of vocal performance, but seeing the film as a spectacle is still a very completely different experience than playing a CD. The trailers for this film were absolute eye candy and I've been planning on seeing this since it opened. Overall I was pleased with the movie. The singing and acting were not incredible, but the costumes and sets were fabulously opulent. Overall I was most impressed with Minnie Driver's La Carlotta (note that she is voiced over in the sung parts), and Patrick Wilson makes a tender Raoul Vicomte de Chagny. There are some extra bits of music thrown in - but only the purists will notice. If this doesn't win an Oscar for Best Costumes or Best Set Design I will be quite upset. The Opera Populaire, the ficticious opera house in which this movie takes place is based completely on the Palais Garnier in Paris, and it is absolutely breathtaking! The "Prima Donna" scene is probably the most visually stunning as they show La Carlotta completely diva-ed up in the biggest dress and tallest wig a person could wear: Oooh.. the pink, the lace, the jewels, the wig - so opulent! Yummy! Afterwards we popped into the MAC Pro store and played around with more colors =P I picked up an eyeshadow and a new brush before heading out to go to work.

oh it's fantastically gaudy and cheesy but come on if you'd seen the character you wouldn't expect anything less!

PS. I want all the sephora glitter stuff!!! My hand has recovered and is ready for a second (or 4th i should say) makeover
