Today has been a mad sewing day from hell!!

My plan was to make Kevin's coat for his Watanuki costume. Upon close scrutiny of the artwork, I noticed that the cut off the jacket is very short (look around his waist). It's almost the length of a motorcycle jacket - which is retarded since he is wearing a proper tuxedo dress shirt. However, I do know that tuxedo jackets with TAILS are cut that way.
Unfortunately neither my dad or Kevin own tails, and I'm not gonna call up my choir buds to borrow their tuxes.. I did the next best thing - I borrowed one of Kevin's "normal" blazers and looked up some tux pictures on tux rental site. I had a very good idea of how they were put together and I would use Kev's jacket as a measurment guide.
Well... 9 hours later the jacket is 90% done. It isn't lined on the inside - I'm not skilled enough to do that the way a professional would - and I've left the sleeves unfinished so that I can adjust their length by hand after Kevin tries it on.
I think the overal sizing of the jacket is on the big side - but it is a thousand times easier to take something in than to try to make it bigger
All I can say is - I am NEVER doing this again.. If I need a jacket in the future I would much rather buy one and alter it as needed. Making one from scratch is NOT worth the effort. Add to the fact that I don't use patterns - I just draft up ideas and design the "pattern" myself. What I want now is something with globs of melted mozzarella cheese on it. *pouts*
