Black satin slippers

So tonight was the dreaded Soundstreams concert. Everything went well, of course, but that didn’t make the overall experience anything that I would want to repeat. However during the concert there were a few unexpected moments where the harmonies and the emotions just *clicked* and they were exceptionally beautiful. So even though it was unpleasant, I did get something out of it. The Hilliard Ensemble is incredible. I wish we had more time to work with them. Laura – the commissioned piece was by "one of yours" – a professor of theory from UWO named Omar Daniel. All composers should be so fortunate as to have their works premiered by the Hilliards and Tafelmusik -__-" (sidenotes... mostly for Laura... Chris Dawes was the organist... Noel Edison was in attendance and he behaved ^__~) An interesting thing I discovered is that since this event was picked up by CBC and technically I was working for CBC for this project I get money! Whoohoo! It's not a lot since they only recorded half of the concert, but it's still a professional gig and I can count it towards ACTRA. After the dress rehearsal this afternoon I had to go out and buy a pair of black slippers. Anything flat and "dressy" enough to pass off as concert wear. I was looking for a pair of those beaded "house slippers" that were so popular last summer (and I thought were tacky... interesting what desperation does to you, eh?), but I couldn’t find anything (*whew! fashion morals intact!*). I finally went to the Bay and bought a pair of black Isotoner slippers. Comfy and cute! The reason I needed slippers was because of the layout of the risers and chairs at the church. I was on the end of the row, and I either had to stand on a 6 inch raised “railing” that was a part of the actual altar steps, or stand 2 feet away from the singer next to me. So I chose to stand on the silly step – but that meant that I was standing on the same "level" as the basses and tenors behind me, and in my usual 2 inch concert shoes they wouldn’t have been able to see anything. So I needed black flats. Blah! This was the first pair of footwear that I’ve purchased since I came home from Germany last summer, and I didn’t want to buy them, but sadly they were needed. Since I was wearing pants for the concert (can you tell I didn’t care? Hehehe... not eve skirt-worthy!) and the comfy slippers, I felt like it was a pajama party rather than a concert. For dinner I went over to Marché – had a light supper - Chicken Alfredo with veggies and Crème Caramel for dessert. They make a wicked Crème Caramel there... but they don’t offer it all the time. Had to take advantage! ^__~ Laura – I have 3 words for you: Rajaton in Toronto. To elaborate, there’s a Soundstreams music festival thing happening in June. Rajaton is going to be in one of the concerts.

*jumps up and down and doesn't stop until June*

Chris Dawes! Awww! He was amazing. And yeah, Omar was my composition teacher last year. :D The good one of the two!

I've uploaded the 2 pages from my Soundscreams (hehe) program that pertain to the music festival in June HERE.

The second page is the one with concert info about Rajaton.
