My day in Bregenz, Austria

For our free day yesterday a bunch of us took the train to Bregenz, which is another city on the shore of the Bodensee (Lake Constance) located in Austria. It was a lovely place but the weather was absolute crap for exploring. It was raining non-stop all day.

We stopped in to look at the opera house where they were preparing the sets for Verdi's Il Troubadour on the outdoor floating stage. It was very impressive. Then we walked through the town to the old city centre to enjoy the old architecture and the churches.

There was an exhibit of Roy Lichetnstein's art at the Bregenz Art Gallery so we checked that out. It was a great exhibit and it was put together in a way that you could see the progression of his style and artistic development.

Since it was rainy and misty, the view of the city was blocked a bit, but since we were had already made the trip we decided to ride the cable car up to the top of the mountain. We couldn't see much but I did get a few photos of the view while we headed up the car before we passed through the cloud of mist ^__^

Afterwards we sat in a café called the 'American Diner' (pure jokes) and waited for the train home. Since it was Sunday none of the shops were open.

Upon returing to Überlingen, I really didn't want to hike up the hill to Härlen for dinner so I stayed in town with Michael Adair and Donald and had dinner at a lovely family owned pizzeria. I had the most amazing tiramisu that I've ever tasted for dessert!! Mmmm.... if we have weird dinner again this Friday I am SO going back there.

On Saturday night at dinner, I sat with Yumi and Mariko the Japanese oboists. It was a bit awkward since they speak Japanese, German and a TINY bit of English. Between myself, Phil and Amy we spoke enough German to gave a conversation with them. Yumi is from Tokyo and Mariko is from Kyoto. Phil was being a goof and they thought it was the funniest thing ever. It took over 10 minutes to explain that Amy was drinking parsley tea because it is good for her kidneys. (FYI - kidneys in German is Niere! -__-" )

Today it is business as usual with lots of rehearsals. The countdown to Stuttgart has begun!!
