A few musings

Any of you who have ever heard Marshall Pynkoski give his opening speech at an Opera Atelier show know that he is a very passionate speaker and loves to talk. He's so knowledgeable and experienced and I could listen to him go on for hours because he's so captivating and engaging to listen to. One of the comments he made yesterday in our opera workshop was that the Baroque ideal of a healthy minded person was one who was calm, reserved and could collect all their thoughts and emotions and process them in a logical and healthy manner.

An unhealthy minded person was the one who voiced their problems, because the moment you spoke of a problem aloud, it came "alive" (so to speak) and would work against you. This goes against the ideal that came later in the Romantic era where people wouldn't hesitate to voice their personal grievances - and it continues to this day. How many people spend their time sitting on therapist couches, only to reach a point where one therapist can't help them any longer so they go find another, and then another.

Whatever ideal you prefer is completely personal since neither field of thought is more correct than the other. I just thought it was an interesting point and it made me stop and think.

I know that one of the perks of my job is the discount that I can get in the lingerie branch of the store - but since we don't carry my bra size size it's hit and miss as to what I can actually buy.

I've recently tried, rejected and bought a few bras from La Senza and wanted to share my comments on them.
- No Wire Strapless Bra - no support, unflattering piece of crap. Silicone straps are useless - if you don't want your straps to show, get a strapless bra - just not this one. Rating: 0/5

-Strapless Convertible Bra - this is the one that has all the fuss because you can convert it to fasten it lower. Well, if you do you will have a stupid criss-cross across your front where the elastic digs into your stomach. The push up pads are cleverly designed to velcro in and out and add enough oomph for my taste but the bra is perfectly useable without the pads. As a stand-alone strapless is where this bra shines. It provides great support and the cups are shaped well to go under v-necks. I'll never use "lower back converter straps" or clear silicone straps, but this was a good multi-task bra. I bought it in nude. Price: $34.50. Rating: 3/5

-Dreamshapers Featherlite Bra Anyone oggling my cleavage at AN - these were what I was wearing. I love that you get coverage and cleavage with no back. I'm usually not a fan of stick-on bras, but these were a great buy. These aren't the sticky paper type, they are like a normal bra cup with a special silicone adhesive inside. They're 50% off right now cuz La Senza is re-packaging them so I paid $29.75 for them. Rating: 5/5

-Extreme Weightless Push up Deep V Bra - I can safely say that this is my new favorite bra. It's seamless, the cups are cut so I can wear them under any shaped neckline and the pushup padding (non-removable) is the best that I've ever found in a bra because it's built up the sides of the cup as well and not just the bottom. Very comfortable, straps can convert to a racerback (but not halter). Price: $34.50. Rating: 5/5.
