Überlingen - Day 5

We had a full run-through of the Mozart Requiem yesterday afternoon and it was wonderful to hear the soloists. They are infinitely better than the singers we had last year (since last year then were masterclass students, and these are hired pros). I took a short video which I'll post eventually. It's nice because you get to see the masetro conducting as well. I'm not sure what I think about this 'newly completed' edition. There are a lot of moments that are decidedly un-Mozartean and make me cringe. Whether it is more academically correct or not, it is still not wise to try to re-write 200+ years of accepted history.

The weather has been erratic - going from 25C to sudden torrential downpour, and then sunny after 5 minutes, and the pouring rain again. A lot of people are getting sick - more likely from over-partying than the weather though.

Last night I went out to dinner with Audrey, Dane, Skip and Keith since none of us were in the mood for cafeteria quiche. We went to the little pizzeria at the end of the road and it was nice to chat with them.

At the boat house they showed Amadeus, which was highly appropriate considering the repertoire that we are doing. I don't think I have ever sat through that film completely from beginning to end since Bravo cuts a lot of scenes out of it when they air it on TV. A bunch of people were playing a drinking game where every time Mozart does his signature giggle they had to take a swig of their beer. It certainly made the evening more amusing as people got progressively more drunk LOL.
