It's about that time of year again

This week is the annual Tafelmusik Messiah marathon! Tonight was the second rehearsal with the orchestra and the choir call wasn't until 7:30 so I sat up in the center of the balcony to listen to them rehearsing.

I've never had a chance to sit in those great seats for a performance since I usually end up with B section comp tickets or I used to buy C section student seats so it was a completely different experience. I understand why the audience members like TSP so much, it felt like I was sitting in the orchestra's lap. The space (though a shoebox acoustically) is ridiculously intimate.

The moment I wait for in every Messiah is the short recitative before the bass sings "The Trumpet Shall Sound." He sings the words "behold, I tell you a mystery" and it takes someone stellar to give me chills. I still think that Gary Relyea owns that line. We'll see if Daniel Lichti can chill me =P I'm really happy that Rufus is singing with us again since I just adore him and I'm looking forward to hearing the soprano and alto - it's a chick alto! Hehe... I miss Matt White though.

Anyhow to keep up with my own Messiah traditions I've dyed my hair red again and I'm fixing up the sequins and rhinestones on my Ruby Slippers to wear them at the Sing-a-Long on Sunday.

I'll be there with bells on! (not literally) You're welcome to join us all for dinner afterwards. It'll be a bunch of music geeks from Western so you'll fit right in ;)
